I want to buy my father a cordless powertool kit and my budget is between 5-150. The kit I have decided on has a cordless drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and flashlight (w/2 battery packs). I see names like Hitachi, Porter-Cable, Skil, Craftsman, and Ryobi, but I don’t know which is the best. All fall within my price range. As for DeWalt and Mikita, I just don’t have the money for those. So, can anyone tell me which brand they would choose, given my budget limts?
I was gifted a set of Ryobi power tools a few years back and have gotten good use out of them, but lately we have begun to do a LOT more serious work… I want to pick a good grade of cordless for my shop and projects that is good across to board so I don’t have 5 different types of batteries laying around. I was going to go ahead and go with Dewalt, but I have been hearing that they may not be as good as they once were…. I am open to suggestions, all the research I have done has not given me a great answer so I thought I would ask a question. Some of the projects behind and ahead, 36×60 barn, green house, tractor shed, 2 car garage, new shop structure, etc…

Is any one else confused about all of the different power tools offered by craftsman? I have been looking to get a cordless drill and circular saw, and have been running into some confusing things. There is C3 drills, with diehard, w/out diehard, Lithium ion but two different kinds of them and then i found two drills that were exactly the same (same battery, same torque, same driver size) and they were priced almost 0 apart. I was wondering if there is a review website or somewhere where they compare them side by side. If you know of such a place please let me know.

I got a cordless DuraBuilt power tool set at a garage sale for .00
it has a drill, circular saw, sander, flashlight, jig saw, a battery charger and 2 batteries.
The guy is a friend of my parents….says he just can’t fuss with them anymore.
I’ve used a multi-meter to determine that the one battery is fully charged
the other battery is completely drained
I can plug the charger in and get a current
but it will not charge the second battery.
When I hook the full battery up, it works on the drill and the flashlight somewhat well but nothing else.
To me, it seems like the leads aren’t conducting very well
but I’m no expert on any of this.
Is there something else I can try to get these things working?
If you think it’s the leads, can I clean them somehow?
if I need to add more details, please let me know
and feel free to e-mail me….I’d really appreciate any help
